Apple announces the long-awaited iPhoneJanuary 9, 2007

During his keynote speech at MacWorld San Francisco on January 9, 2006, Steve Jobs easily lived up to the hype surrounding the much-rumored Apple iPhone, by announcing the first-ever iPod/mobile phone/internet communicator… a 3-in-one device called the iPhone.

The Apple iPhone

Apple iPhone

  • Patented, HUGE multi-touch display screen - NO KEYBOARD or tiny buttons! The iPhone uses combinations of fingers to scroll and navigate.
  • Runs Mac OS X - which means all my favorite apps run on the iPhone, including Apple Mail, iCal, Safari and more!
  • Built-in 2 megapixel camera
  • Proximity sensor - fades volume and dims display when the phone nears your ear.
  • Free Yahoo! email for every user!
  • iTunes - listen to music and watch movies!
  • iPhoto - show your photos to everyone in large-screen format.
  • Auto-rotate - screen adjusts between widescreen and portrait when you rotate the device in your hand!
  • Visual Voicemail - lets you select any voicemail to listen to it, whether it’s #2 or #6!
  • Touch-screen keyboard for entering text.
  • Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, EDGE networks!
  • Full HTML email, including split-screen format!
  • Full web browsing - no more reduced, mobile-only versions!
  • 4GB model costs $499 and 8GB model costs $599
  • Available in June from Apple or Cingular stores.

In short, it’s everything all other mobile phones should have been. Leave it to Apple to reinvent the cellphone!
